Brand Messaging Guide

Establish foundational language for your brand that can be used effectively and consistently across platforms. Developing a brand video? Or perhaps your website is long overdue for a refresh of who you are? Our messaging guide will help you to stand out from the competition by telling your brand’s story through a consistent narrative designed to build relationships with consumers.

Naming Consultation

Developing a new name requires more than just a creative or catchy title. There’s a lot to consider when naming or renaming your business, like your ability to be found online or ensuring your name is free and clear for use, legally. We’ve identified a proprietary process in order to ensure your new product or brand name is vetted, fitting and memorable.

Brand Collateral Design

Finding creative ways to showcase your brand can be challenging. Our team is well-versed in developing creative that is original and maintains your brand standards while bringing new collateral to life. We have extensive experience in preparing partners for trade shows (building printed materials or designing environmental displays), brand launches (establishing paper systems and producing promotional items) and location expansions (designing wayfinding signage and launching digital graphics).

CPG Packaging Design

With shelf space at a premium, your products have to pop. Our designers balance fresh creative, functionality and market research to create the perfect label design and packaging for your brand in order to attract consumers.

Website Strategy, Design & Build

Whether it’s a website redesign or a new website altogether, we see your website as the front door of your brand and can help you make a great first impression. Through unified graphic elements, accessible functionality and clear messaging, your customer’s journey is at the forefront of our finished product.

Our Step-By-Step Process

Marketing is nearly impossible when you’re going at it alone. That’s why our workflow prioritizes collaboration between our team and yours. With a dedicated team of experts focused on your brand, marketing in a silo is a thing of the past.

Discovery & Research

In any creative project, we first start with a discovery session with your team as this provides initial insights into your brand and understanding the focus of your company - your vision, mission, values, etc. Then we conduct local and industry competitor research on what design elements are in the marketplace. It also helps for partners to share any existing brand elements, standards or current uses of their brand too (if applicable).

Creative Strategy

This is where the magic happens — here we establish a direction for your brand’s look and feel. Our designers develop options for your review and present recommendations that are best suited based on your brand goals.

Design & Development

Once aligned on a creative direction for your brand, we move into development of creative assets. Additionally our designers work to develop standards to ensure consistent use of your brand assets for all marketing efforts. We know time is money, which is why we also develop digital tools to keep your assets in one place for seamless sharing.

Implementation

After completing all creative assets, we deliver them directly to you for implementation. Should you need additional strategic support in bringing your brand identity to life, our integrated marketing campaigns and online presence services may be just what you’re looking for.

FAQs

What is brand identity?

A brand identity is a combination of visual and content elements that represent your company’s personality. It’s the face of your brand that sets you apart from everyone else.

Brand identity = logo + color + design elements

Iconic brands such as Nike, Apple and Google (among others) have developed strong identities that you could likely picture if you closed your eyes, but these brands haven’t gained recognition through the development of their identities alone — it’s through strategic implementation and consistent usage that they’ve grown over the years and emerged as “iconic” in the marketplace. Learn more about what is included in our brand standards guide in the last question below.

What are some things to avoid when creating a brand identity?

Creating a brand identity can be exciting, but we also understand it may be daunting for some. Here are a few tips on things to avoid when developing your brand.

  • Using trendy and/or confusing imagery — We love a good Canva template, however using trendy visuals may confuse your target audience. Don’t forget about trademark and copywriting infringements too as you’d hate to select something that has legal impact in the future.
  • Forgoing market research — Investing time in researching your target audience behaviors and values will provide meaningful insights on what you should and shouldn’t include in your brand identity (and don’t forget about researching your competition, too!)
  • Forgetting all aspects of brand usage — Consider all scenarios in which your brand may be showcased: website (desktop and mobile), social media, signage, business cards or other printed collateral, embroidery/apparel, etc.
  • Consulting with nonexperts — Branding a business without experience can lead to months or even years of trial-and-error and may not produce a brand that consumers recognize. With over 26 years in business, our team of experienced marketers understands brand development is an investment and are ready to work with you to build a successful brand — let’s chat.

Why is a brand standards guide important?

Having a brand standards guide saves you time and money and maintains brand consistency — it’s that simple.

We often see brands struggle to use logos consistently (for example, what’s on your social media profile may not match your email signature) or perhaps you ordered a promotional item and your logo somehow got “squished.” Having a brand standards guide will showcase the do’s and don’ts of your brand, helping to maintain brand consistency and accuracy in all applications and ultimately ensuring the identity you’ve invested in is not compromised. BBR’s Brand Standards Guides are provided in a digital format as well, making it easy to share and update with internal and external stakeholders too!

Once my brand is developed, is there a way to easily access and share my assets?

Yes, gone are the days of attaching logo files to emails. All brands developed by BBR are published to your very own “Invision Board” — this digital board contains all brand assets including but not limited to logos, fonts and brand colors, and allows you to share access seamlessly with one link. Additionally, should you ever have to update your logo in any way or want to add additional assets, you can re-upload materials to your board for external access in real time.

I already have an existing brand, but would like a refresh. Is that something BBR does?

Definitely! We’ve refreshed brands for many partners over the years, like CC’s Coffee House, Cane River Pecan Company and many more. Thousands of consumers have downloaded our Rebranding Checklist, which will help to outline areas of your business you may want to assess, keeping this exciting transition as efficient and focused as possible.

Why is naming a brand so difficult?

Sometimes naming a brand can be even more difficult than designing logos or writing brand narratives. Why? Because there is a lot to consider when developing your brand name:

  • How original is your name? Is it already taken by someone else?
  • Is your brand name available online? URL/Domain Name already taken?
  • Have you vetted your name legally? Considered any trademarked or legal barriers?

Often people don’t consider these elements when developing a brand name. Our team covers these elements (and so many more) when working to name a brand and can help to set you up for success.

How do I use a messaging guide?

A useful messaging guide establishes foundational language for your brand and should communicate your “why” quickly. It also outlines how that messaging should be delivered, also known as your brand tone. Messaging guides are to be shared — the more your brand messaging is communicated consistently, the more successful your brand will be.

What does a BBR Brand Standards Guide include?

A BBR Brand Standards Guide includes your identity (primary, secondary and tertiary logos), the do’s and don’ts of your visual brand, and any additional brand use parameters to ensure consistency in application. Additional elements include brand colors, fonts, photography styles and patterns.
