international illustrators award
The Award: Society of Illustrators
Founded in 1901, the Society of Illustrators have made it their mission to promote art and the appreciation of illustration, as well as its history and evolving nature. The Society encourages high ideals through exhibitions, lectures, education and by fostering a sense of community and open discussion.

The Museum of American Illustration and Society of Illustrators annually presents the work of over 300 of today’s top illustrators. Chosen from thousands of entries submitted worldwide, the winning pieces are recognized through (1) exhibition of their work (2) medals and certificates during an Awards Gala and Opening (3)
artwork inclusion in a full-color annual.
The Work
Her Guests Considered Her Unconvetionally Charming by Denise Gallagher
Illustrator Denise Gallagher created the work for a book by Von Glitschka called Drip. Dot. Swirl. and later submitted it to the Society of Illustrators. The work began as a pattern called Double Dutch, which, provided by Glitschka, served as the artist’s inspiration for the work.
Gallagher says, “The pattern chosen for me, Double Dutch, reminded me of fragile, tinkling teacups, lace doilies and tiny cakes arranged just so.”
The work’s whimsy comes from the imagined, charming and unique hostess of Gallagher’s world of characters. Her illustrations provide glimpses of a grand and sprawling story — a fairy tale that is yet to be written but is revealed in each illustration.
Gallagher is a Lafayette, La.-based Senior Art Director for BBR Creative who has individually — and with the agency — gained local, regional and national advertising, illustration and marketing program awards.
