We Love: Activities

AIGA Austin Design Ranch
If you ever want to feel like you're a child again, AIGA Design Ranch is a great place to start. Unlike most conferences, there are no long, tiring lectures and no dimly lit rooms. Just the great outdoors and an open range with design-related (and unrelated), hands-on workshops meant to inspire and rekindle your imagination. —Cathi Pavy

Alligator Hunting
We do live in South Louisiana, right? Our website wouldn't be complete if we didn't talk about some obscure, but totally native tradition. Our good friend Jady Regard hosts alligator hunts at his camp in Lena, Louisiana. —Cherie Hebert

Cypremort Mardi Gras Parade
Cypremort Point, or Cypremort Point State Park, is located near the Gulf of Mexico on the coast of Louisiana. What is typically a weekend haven for area residents and camp owners who enjoy water sports and fishing, Cypremort Point turns into a huge street party for Mardi Gras. With only a dozen or so Mardi Gras floats, each adorned with some sort of fishing theme, the small, quaint parade is really a great reason to light up the pit, enjoy time with family and neighbors — and to catch a few beads. —Cathi Pavy

Fishing in Louisiana
I like being able to wake up on a weekend morning and have my boat in the water in 45 minutes. —Eddie Talbot

Horseback Riding
I grew up with four to five horses in my backyard and rode almost every day after school. Horses are such beautiful, calm animals that when you sit atop and gallop through the fields, there is such a sense of freedom and self being, you almost never want to dismount. —Monica Hebert

Houseboat Adventures
The most relaxing weekend I ever spent was on a houseboat in the Atchafalaya Basin. Spending time in a “real” swamp is a real way to get back to basics. —Cherie Hebert

Zydeco Music Festival
Located in Plaisance, La., the Zydeco festival is not for the faint of heart. It’s scheduled during the hottest time of the summer and is located in none other than a barren field with one tree for shelter. But if you can take the heat, it's well worth it. The Zydeco Festival includes Louisiana's top, authentic Zydeco bands, arts and crafts and the juiciest fried turkey legs! —Cathi Pavy
